Backup and export
Take a copy of your library with you — to another app, to a spreadsheet, or to long-term safekeeping.
Your Lookups and Glossary are yours. Lupa makes it easy to take them out. Export and restore are Premium features.
Two formats
Open the User Menu and tap Backup & export. You'll be offered two formats.
- Lupa archive (JSON). A full backup — every entry, every translation, every example, every star. Best for archiving and for restoring later.
- Spreadsheet (CSV). A clean tabular export. Opens in Numbers, Excel, or Google Sheets. Useful for importing into Quizlet, Anki, or any flashcard tool.
Both exports pull from the server, not from what's cached on this device, so you always get the full library — even if your phone has been offline for a while.
Including photos and audio
If you have Save Media enabled, you can choose to include captured page photos and pronunciation clips with your JSON backup. The file gets larger; the picture gets complete.
Restoring a backup
Tap Restore from backup and choose a Lupa archive file. Two options appear.
- Merge. Add the entries in the file to what's already on your account, skipping duplicates. Use this when you've exported on one account and want to fold the words into another.
- Replace. Wipe what's there and put the backup in its place. Replace also restores your settings.
Before any restore, Lupa keeps a snapshot of the current library. The last three snapshots stay available under Backup & export so you can roll back if anything looks off.
